SoCal Early Ford V-8 Club members, George Garrett and Tom Shields are driving their EFV8’s on the Lincoln Highway this summer (2008). They’re taking the east to west route that starts in Times Square in New York and ends in Lincoln Park in San Francisco. The distance is about 3400 miles.
After leaving New York on 6 July, they’ll be traveling through New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. You can see the route on the map below.
They'll be making at least one "side trip" to the EFV8 Grand National in Dearborn.
The Lincoln Highway was at one time, America’s “Main Street”. It was the first “improved” road to run coast to coast. The concept for the highway was developed by Carl Fisher and he enlisted the help of several prominent people including Henry Joy, the then President of Packard. (Henry Ford was approached but had no interest.)
